Happy New Year Cupcake Truckers!

To all our loyal fans, thank you for a wonderful 2010 and thanks for sticking with us, the Original Cupcake Truck :)

We know you miss seeing the Truck these days and we miss you, too but we have to take enough time to really get to know and love our new kitchen/headquarters. Seriously, moving to a new space takes a lot of learning and tweaking. We are still a very small, local business. So we can't do it like the big boys do, you know with long opening hours and thousands of cupcakes on our shelves. We still bake in small batches and make our frostings in small quantities EVERY single day. Takes commitment and sometimes a few steps back to get it all right.

We do plan to see lots more of you in the coming year when we will have lots of fun, new treats like the "Red Velvet Whoopies" (think two yummy, chewy Red Velvet "cookies" sandwiched together with a thick layer of vanilla or chocolate cream filling and decorated with colorful sprinkles) available today at our new store, along with your regular favorites.

We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and is safe and warm after our very first serious snowstorm of the year. We'll check the roads this week and give everyone a heads up on parking. December already!?

We can't believe the year is almost over! And what a year it's been. We have been head-down (or rather head-in-the-oven) hard at work trying to get our new store up and running and fine-tuning plans to get the Cupcake Truck — the Original Cupcake Truck if we can toot our own horns — back on the street so you can get your cupcake fix.

We still need a little more time to put those plans into action and we hope to start 2011 with our feet planted firmly on the pedal once again.

Just to fill you in on the goings-on behind-the-scenes, after two years of parking in this spot (along with our very first ever Truck Stop, Sachem St) we were told earlier this year by the folks who're in charge round these parts that we are no longer allowed to park there.

Something about too many street vendors and seniority (some might say two years was seniority?!). So, what's a Cupcake Truck to do other than keep on truckin' but if you know someone who knows someone...feel free to do what you can.

In the meanwhile, we thank everyone for their support and hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow.

What's happening in Oct?

Wow! We've been so busy at our new store and with private events that we forgot to update you this week. Sorry Cupcake Truckers!

We have lots happening on our calendar this month, some of it private—like today's visit to a local college—and some open to everyone—like next Saturday's visit to Macy's in Milford. So keep checking back to see when we'll be near you!

We hope to be back on our regular route (minus a couple of old faithful stops and we'll post more on this later) plus a few new Truck Stops within the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, we're baking at our new store so you can definitely pick up your orders there.

We passed our final inspection for our retail store (hooray!) and now the race to the finish line is really on. That means we will be parking intermittently over the next few weeks but will continue to do special events (Foxwoods on 8/3, Branford Lobster Shack on 8/14, Woodmont Farmers' Market on 8/11 and 9/8 and more!) private parties and deliveries for larger orders (please contact us at baker@followthatcupcake.com to find out more)

We must postpone our visit to Ashlawn Farm due to some urgent store-opening business that we must attend to today. We will definitely stop by the market this summer and hope you will, too. There's lots of great foods, crafts and, of course, fresh roasted coffee.

We were supposed to have received a very important shipping order yesterday but was informed that our bigger than bread box order will be in sometime between 11am and 5pm today...???

Of course the ever present monkey wrench gets tossed into the baking/parking plans for today, so
the truck will not be out today as we wait for yesterday's order to be delivered today.

Wednesday parking location will either be over by the Yale Rep Theatre or YNHH in the afternoon.

Parkng Tuesday rain or shine

We've been checking the weather report since the wee hours this morning and now and everything still says severe thunderstorms.

June is shaping up to be a busy month for us what with all your graduation parties and weddings and our own little store opening (YES! The Truck will still hit the streets of New Haven and beyond). But we promise to do our very best to get out and treat you as much as we can.

We have several private events this week and won't be parking Monday, Tuesday or Friday but we'll let you know our schedule for Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Saturday very soon.

Saturday: Audubon St @ 12pm

We'll be swinging by Arts on the Edge at noon today and will park between Orange and Whitney Ave (closer to Orange).

This free event features family-oriented music and dance performances, hands-on arts-and-crafts activities, and interactive educational programs. It's held by the Audubon Arts District in celebration of all that the neighborhood’s arts and educational institutions, galleries, and retailers have to offer the Greater New Haven community. So bring the kids out for some fun and some yummy cupcakes.

Opening a retail store is a lot of work and while we're getting close, there's lots to do to get ready.

Therefore we will not be out today but will definitely be at The Arts Council of Greater New Haven's "Arts on the Edge" on Audubon Street tomorrow at noon. Hope to see you there!

We will be parking the rest of this week including Saturday at Audubon Arts on the Edge.

Also, if you're in Fairfield county, you have to stop by Mirabelle Cheese Shop in Westport. It's owned by good friends of ours and we happen to know that they've got some really delicious stuff! They've also just launched their "Cheese Wheels," a vintage mobile Airstream trailer peddling their fine cheese, sandwiches and more. We first saw this trailer some years ago when our friend had just completed it and was finetuning the concept for life on the street. So we can tell you firsthand that it is just the coolest thing and we're thrilled to see it in action. Be sure to check them out and ask how you can have it at your next event.

By the way, we often receive messages from people asking us to visit new areas. We're always happy to try new stops but finding parking can be tricky if not downright impossible.

So if you have a new stop suggestion, let us know what the parking is like in the area or if there's a specific spot (street, intersection, parking lot etc) where parking is available for a big, old truck.
